Oldest House in Barbados

Nicholas Abbey at Cherry Tree Hill is a fine example of Jacobean styling and is thought to be one of only three such Plantation Great Houses of that period still standing in the Americas. Built in 1650, it is believed to be the oldest house in Barbados.

The hill is believed to have received its name from Cherry trees that used to be grown there. Today the road is lined with large mahogany trees. The view from Cherry Tree Hill is magnificent and one of the best on the island. From the hilltop you can see across the rugged Scotland District to the Atlantic.
